On behalf of the 2008 conference planning committee, we are excited that you are making
your plans to attend the 2008 BPD 25th Conference Celebration in Destin. Let’s
quickly remind you that the resort room reservation (group code 20Y0PQ) deadline is February 1, 2008 and the discounted preregistration rates
for conference registration ends February 15th. After that there will be only
on-site registration. Those deadlines are now fast approaching so don’t
delay any longer!
As a reminder, Wednesday, March 5th will be again our preconference day with training opportunities
for new program directors, new field directors, experienced field directors, community-based research workshop and a session
for program directors focusing on the revised EPAS.
Also that evening is our opening plenary hosted by Freddie Avant, BPD’s president, followed by a Taste
of Florida reception and music by the famous Shameless Blues Band.
Thursday, March 6th, begins with a President’s Breakfast and Address. Sessions will be all day along with the Ron Frederico Lecture and a Town Hall Meeting on EPAS. A variety of evening activities are available including a salon.
Friday, March 7th, begins early with the Jim Wahlberg Walk/Run then a plenary session on Unification
with a panel of organizational leaders; next is the Membership Meeting followed by a plenary session titled “Baccalaureate
Social Work: A Re-examination” presented by Dean Pierce; Friday afternoon there are sessions along with the Mit Joyner
Gerontology Award and Reception. Again a variety of evening opportunities will
be available along with a second salon.
Saturday, March 8th, the day begins with sessions and ends at 12:15 p.m. followed by Regional
Meetings. The Health and Wellness Institute activities begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. Since this is the last night the 25th
Celebration Reception and Gala promises to be an evening to remember. Bring your
dress up clothes!
The conference ends Sunday, March 9th, with a continental breakfast and an inspiring and informative
session titled “Katrina Aftermath: Wind and Waters of Recovery”.
See you in Destin!
